After an early start to our cross country ski season, I am getting questions from people about kick waxing classic skis. These questions are coming from folks new to the sport and from those who are transitioning from waxless skis to waxable skis. It can all seem a bit daunting so I made a brief video, “Kick Waxing 101, an Introduction” to help you get started.

In this video I will cover:

  • what the kick zone is
  • kick zone preparation
  • tools and accessories
  • kick wax and temperatures
  • kick wax application

I enjoy kick waxing. It’s a challenge to figure out what wax is going to work the best. Some days can be tricky, especially when the temperatures are around 0 degrees Celsius, but if all else fails I can just skate.

If you have any questions, please send them to me.

Happy Christmas and I will see you on the ski trails.

Roy, the XC Ski Guy
